I was so excited to find this Casserole Carrier tutorial at 2 Little Hooligans - I'd never seen anything like it. Toting a hot dish has never looked so good.
- There are two main pieces to the carrier. One short, wide piece to go around the width of your casserole dish and one long, skinny piece to wrap around the length. I increased the longer piece to 40 inches to accommodate a Pyrex dish (you need extra length to wrap around the Pyrex handles).
- Instead of sewing fabric straps I used cotton belting. The 82 inch piece of belting was sewn into a continuous loop and attached the same way I make my Spring Totes.
If you have a stylish carrier, you need a cute dish to go with it. I used my faithful Silhouette to cut vinyl and etch the glass with family names.
So there you have it ... another Christmas gift recorded. More to come next week!

Did you etch a Pyrex dish? I saw on the Armour Etch website that it wouldn't work very well, but yours turned out so nicely!
Yes, I did etch a Pyrex. I did it on the side instead of the bottom and left the cream on for a good 20-25 minutes (the instructions say to only do about 5). It worked really well!

Your site is so inspiring... and it gets me into trouble... I keep adding to my "I would like to make this someday" list. I finally started a blog so I would finish some of those half-done projects, *I hope.* But a casserole cover is a great idea, and I don't have one, so maybe that will be next!
I have a "real" Pyrex brand tote. It comes with a hot pack and an ice pack so that you can keep whatever you're toting warm or cold. I am seriously considering switching the tote out for one of these cute things--they look adorable!

I bought some etching cream, and am now waiting for access to some electronic cutter. After seeing all the silhouette and cricut projects around, my exacto-knife is really unappealing. :)
I don't really do pot-lucks (I'm afraid to cook for other people. I'm a terrible cook.) but this would be great for an impromptu picnic dinner in the park for our fam.

The addition of the velcro is a great idea! My mom had one of these back in the 80's and as I was carrying it and happily swinging it back and forth (I think I was only 7 or 8), the casserole dish went flying out the end and shattered in a million pieces! In retrospect, it was pretty funny, but my mom was not too happy with me that day! :)

My MIL made me one of these a year ago and I love it! I've used it to take cinnamon rolls to a breakfast, taquitos to a party, and lots more. I never thought of it as a wedding present, what a great idea.
Well I will def have to put this on my to-do list for when all my friends catch up with a husband and kids and host something that I can bring a casserole to. I loved the etched pyrex as well! My maiden name is Maddox, and although I love my new last name, Maddox will forever be special to me (I actually gave it to my son for his middle name, so it lives on!). Anyhow, gorgeous work as usual. Hopefully, I can make one for my Mother-in-law in England!

I made one of these too. It's funny when I was making it my mom suggested I use the belting for my handles but I didn't, of course (even at 31 who listens to their mom) ha. ha.
I wish I had seen your modifications before I made mine. I'm new to sewing and was afraid to deviate from the original instructions but wanted to use a Pyrex dish for mine.

Another idea to go along with Crafty Beth's suggestion of hot/cold packs, is my husband cut pieces of 1/4" masonite or hardboard to fit in the bottom (where Beth left hers open for packs) to stiffen the bottom. That way it can be removed for washing. Love your idea of using webbing for the strapping. Also used scraps to make pockets for the outside to hold serving utensils and recipe cards. Love your idea of etching names etc on dishes....makes it easier to return to rightful owners.
Love this, can't wait to make it! Also, I have done a lot of glass etching projects. Glass etching cream is very pricey and most people don't know that it can be used again and again. So don't just wash off the cream when you're doing your project... scoop it up and put it back in the bottle!!
